BENJAMIN RISHEL
Project Experience - TransArc Design
Building my own architecture firm from the ground to profitability in two years forced me to quickly grow in many personal and professional aspects to be able to manage a team, establish and meet project deadlines, develop expertise in codes and regulations, and guide the vision of clients to produce designs that align—and, in most cases, exceed—their expectations.

Shoreline WA Residence
The Shoreline Residence, completed in 2023, went through several iterations to meet the evolving vision of the client while following strict limitations to avoid infringing on neighbors’ views. This resulted in a sunken lower level providing protection from the elements while simultaneously offering privacy and breathtaking views of the Puget Sound.
Thanks to my previous experience in trauma-related design, my firm won a competitive contract to work with the City of Portland to design their Safe Rest Villages in an effort to address the large unhoused population. Since the beginning of 2022, we have worked with the city to make this a reality, and continue to provide design support as their program continues to evolve.
One of our earliest clients, Hip Hop Is Green has become one of our most cherished projects and relationships. Finally under construction, this commercial-grade teaching kitchen and hydroponics lab will become a unique and valuable resource for this underserved community. It has been a challenging but rewarding process to help pave the way for small, non-profit organizations to build in the City of Seattle without the insurmountable burden of regulations for large commercial developments. I have enjoyed supporting this project through permitting and working with the city on several requirements that would have made this community-based project otherwise infeasible.
